The use of emoji by Bangladeshis in online communication has reached a record number last year. During this time, Bangladeshi emo users have sent about 960 crore messages and 2600 crore audio and video calls. Compared to 2019, the number of messages and audio and video calls has increased by 7.2 percent and 7.6 percent respectively.
This information is known from the report published by Emo on Sunday (January 10) 2020. It also said that last year, every Bangladeshi sent an average of 753 messages or calls through emojis. Of these, 31 per cent of the total messages, or 3,000 crore messages, and 56 per cent of the total calls, or 1,500 crore calls, were international. Which indicates the interaction of a large number of expatriates living outside the country with those living in Bangladesh.
Saudi Arabia, Oman, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar are the five countries that have received the highest number of international calls from Bangladeshi emo users. In May last year, Emo allocated five special hotline numbers for the Department of Information, Communication and Technology of Bangladesh to deal with Corona at the international level. So that the expatriates residing abroad can contact those numbers.
The trend of online communication among Bangladeshis was higher in 2020 than in any other year. About 130 million group calls this year and 126 million virtual party rooms have been created through Emo’s interactive feature play-together, which launched in 2020.
